I am Back

Today I ran my first sanctioned road race in almost a year. Today was the 29th annual Burton's Pond 5k. This is always the first run of the year and is a great warm up to the season. Considering 9 months ago I thought I would never run again, i feel fantastic with my time and place in the race. It is over 5 mins off my PB but like i said, thought i would never run again, especially not competitively so i am stoked. it was a bit cool but it is April in Newfoundland. I ran with my good friend the right honorable Dr. Smittenheimer (Smitty) who was running his first race ever. Besides having sweat frozen to his head at the end of the race, he had a blast. There is another 5k next Sunday which i think we are going to head out for. should be a blast seeing how it runs past my house! a 10k in 6 weeks? lets keep positive!

here are some pics (Thanks a ton Steph!), Enjoy!

Memories from Undergrad

This is a great attempt at math. I once drew a dog instead of answering a question and got part marks. only works if your prof has a sense of humor.

1000 Days Adrift

I came across this site while doing the random blog surfing that i do when i am supposed to be studying. Pediatrics makes the mind wander. This is a site about a crew that plans on setting the worlds record for most days at sea without stopping or taking on supplies. I am not sure how they are going to do this but it sounds like a wild ride. the plan is to do 1000 days at sea. They update from the ocean everyday. here is the link and enjoy.

Dumber and Dumber

This has to be the stupidest T-shirt i have ever seen. this is like the guy in the movie "Thank you for Smoking" where to win the argument you don't have to prove you are right, you just have to prove that the other person is wrong. cars make people drive drunk.,... moron. In the states there was close to 10,000 gun killings, and over 70,000 injuries from gun shots. Here are some Canadian numbers
  • 7.1 million registered firearms in Canada
  • 172 gun related homicides in Canada in 2004
  • 112 committed with handguns
  • 71 gang-related homicides in Canada in 2004
  • 70.4 percent of gang-related homicides committed with a gun
  • 20.7 percent of non-gang related homicides committed with a gun
There are 10x the population in the USA. the numbers do not match if you do up the conversion math. so what is the big difference? why are so many people shooting each other in the USA? Shitty gun laws is part of it but there is more to it than that.

Shapenrouten GONE WILD!

Just when i thought the Shapenrouten phenomenon had gone cold, i find out it has gone wild. Since i posted this post on Shapenrouten ( a word i still do not know the definition of) my site has become inundated with hits from the Netherlands. So first I want to give a big shout out to my Dutch friends. HOLLA! and thanks for reading.

now if you follow the Shapenrouten link that i posted before the site has changed color and changed language. it no longer is in Spanish but now appears to be in Dutch. many of the pictures have Spanish subtitles and many of the links go to Spanish sites so it leads me to think that Shapenrouten has gone international. Plus the lettering on the page does this freaking growth thing so that the font at the start is small and the end is ridiculously large. but the links are still there. The links on the page alone go a few layers deep into the underground Shapenrouten world. From all the pictures on the site it looks like it is quite the hobby (please don't be offended if it is not a hobby, I don't speak Dutch). i have followed the links and there is no English to be found, and being the ignorant North American that I am, i do not speak any other language besides English.

So what is Shapenrouten? Is it a fad? or is it truly a world movement to follow the ancient paths of sheep from years before us. I am thinking of marketing this. I will make T-shirts that say "Do you Shapenrouten?" or my favorite "Got Shapenrouten", or "Shapenrouten Happens". it is limitless. anyways the pictures on these sites are actually nice and you get to see a lot of rural parts of some country and the people that live there. plus it appears that someone spent a lot of time gathering info on Shapenrouten for other shapenrouteners to view. So if you are the person in charge of the Shapenrouten site, please drop me a line (comment) and let me know what Shapenrouten is and anything else you want to add about why people do it (if it can be done).

Lets go outside so I can show you the route

This is interesting

Why i don't know. but this blog, although it is entirely in spanish, appears to be about a person who is either following or stalking sheep as they travel through out Spain on sheep trails. interesting as it seems, the site makes no sense and there are plenty of pictures of sheep, donkeys, sheep and shepherds. please send all your fan mail to me.

Please do not confuse my not caring for ignorance

It isn't nice so please stop doing it.

On a side note, I want to give a big shout out to all the old ladies who continue to lie to me. Please stop doing this as well. it makes my job harder. I don't know very much about medicine and when you lie and deceive me it makes me sad. if you want drugs just ask for them. I know how to hook a sister up!

now re-read the title.

Me Me Me Me Me

You know it is going to be a long day when you wake up and it takes you forever to get up and get your ass out of the house. this is what my mornings are like now. i usually get to sleep now about 2 and wake up at 7. I then hit the snooze button until i realize that if i do not leave asap I will violate my schools new professionalism policy for about the thousandth time and get a sharp speakin too by one of our administrators. I then sit in class all day wondering how long until the class is over, unable to pay attention for more than 1 minute without drifting off in what i call agony, an agony that is based in fatigue. Agony that wonders why I am so sleepy and why i can not stay awake. this agony is then replaced with anxiety and fear as i realize that i have not studied yet for my pediatrics course which I am almost 2 weeks into. The fear forces me to pay attention to the droning on the prof is doing about congenital cardiac abnormalities. I know cardiology is only blood goes in blood goes out, but i have never had a good grasp on it so why should i start now. I then shoot home from school to my house where i sit in a near stupor for the rest of the day trying to write a paper in ethics that i have been trying to write for about a week and only was able to put a word on paper yesterday for the first time. Is it ethical to plagiarize an ethics paper? I finally have that all done only to be so drained of words (oh the ranting was prolific) that i am unable to come up with a suitable ending and so the ranting continues and i am thinking of ending the paper with the sentence "So what do you think of all that LUH!". Now i am teasing myself by watching the first few minutes of a hockey game (actually a playoff season) that I will never have time to watch and I will miss (for a second straight year) while i get ready to go study pediatrics so i do not have to do it again in the summer.

This is my life and I wouldn't change a thing.

First 5k

Bang. its about time. Too long inside for me. man this is great, 5 feet and I regret nothing. why i didnt do this all winter i will never know. watch out buddy, sell you misery somewhere else. no wind, nice cool air, fuck i missed this. should slow it down a bit, don't want this to me my last time out. NOFX then Faith No More, then Strung Out, some more Hoobastank. 10 minutes, still feeling good, no cars on the road, no vagabonds wandering my neighborhood tonight. just me my brain and the road. 12 minutes for the lap, not too bad, but should slow it down some more. too fast for this early in the year. wish i had a dog with me. 3K and still going strong. damn my lungs are hurting. gotta get more cardio. man my legs are burning, fucking chafing. I have no idea how fat people do this, the chafing is insane. now my neck hurts. knee is starting to feel a bit fatigued. 4K and still going strong, taking the last turn, straight home now. speed up to finish strong, a few strides to make it to the house, awesome, inside, shoes off, hello Jack.
