Summer

Summer is here. Yea!. Freedom. feels good. ok not that good but it feels good. the sun is shining and I am eating my weight in steak and drinking beer and mowing lawns and running in the sun. freakin awesome.

I have so many things i want to write about but I just keep forgetting them as I come up with them during the day and medical school has turned my brain into a vast wasteland of information where noting really lays down roots and grows. makes you feel secure about the future of health care don't it.

Seriously thought i have taking this week to try and organize my summer. I have put off everything that I have had to do during the year that was not life saving or fun until the summer. I now have a huge list of things to do. I don't want to do any of them, well thats not true. I want to build my privacy fence to block out my neighbors who have recently decided to go into the yard sale business. this means they have a garage sale everyday. Now since they have neither a front yard or a garage, they are left with having a sidewalk sale and a "Hang shit on Aaron's fence" sale everyday. so the privacy fence is going up so I do not have to see them decrease my property value on a daily basis. out of site out of mind (less rage). seriously, no one wants to buy you old shit. keep the broken walmart lamps and dirty childrens toys. we don't want em. ohhh big fence how i have longed for your silent wall to reduce my stress. plus if i extend it just enough, i can stop people I dont know from parking in my driveway (This i shit you now happens all the time.) for some reason people think that my driveway is their parking spot.

Enough rage. for employment this summer I have received yet another grant to try and finish my masters for submission this summer. I plan on having it finished july 31st and then having the next few weeks for revisions. I also have a part time job in the radiology department for the summer. i am excited about this one as it will give me some much needed exposure to the radiology department. talking with Smitty is fun, but it ain't gonna get me the experience and exposure I need to do well at radiology. now don't get your panties in a bunch, I have not decided 100% to do radiology. I just like it and want to learn more about it. I think I am working somewhere else this summer but i forget now. Gonna be busy eh.

In other news, I ran my first 10k race in over 2 years on the weekend. It was the Molson Light 10K. this was actually the last 10K race I ran before my string of injuries that have crippled me for 2 years. I am feeling good after the race. I was a bit sore as I have not run more than 9 K this year but I have recovered and actually did an easy 7k today. I wanted to run the race in under 50 mins (previous time was 40:34) as I am not in shape yet and finishing the damn thing was the main goal. I finished with a time of 49:43. My heart rate hit 201 on the final sprint. I am 32 years old and my max heart rate is not supposed to go up that high. but I am still walking around so who knows. I will try not to let that happen any more but it went that high at the end of the 5k I ran 2 weeks ago. in the final sprint I maxed my HR at 201 and finished with a time of 22:30. I was very happy with that 5k time as the previous time I had raced that course I ran it in 19:46 (my fastest 5k ever). so I am not far off my previous form. This is strange as I only run 3 times a week. For all of you people out there killing yourselves to get in shape or train to run, I seriously run 3x a week and do some cross training on the side. I took this minimalist approach out of a runners world magazine. the pounding on your body from all the road racing is too much and deteriorates your body and you get injuries. using non or low impact cross training allows you to increase your cardio and recover from any injuries (or prevent them) in the process. I ride the bike or play squash on my off days.

the next race I am planning on running is the Tele10 road race. This is the 80th running of this race and it is a fun race to run. 10 miles across the oldest city in North America. 3000 people on a 2 lane street!!! it is a real rush to be running on a road where all you can see in front of you and behind you is bodies. a sea of Newfoundlands fit and unfit. yes, many unfit run it as it is a tradition for many people and many people actually pass out on the course. plenty of ambulances are waiting to help. people come out on the street and cheer you on. it is a great day. I am still not 100% sure i am going to run it. I want to make sure I am fit and I wont get injured during the run. 10k race is one thing, but a 16k race in dead summer is another. last time i ran it I did it in 74 mins. I hope to finish below 100 this year. Like i said, as long as I can go out and run it and have a good run, I am not so much concerned with time as I used to be. There will be more races next year that I can run in.

wow
holy update

bye
